Carlsbad - Agua Hedionda Lagoon
Agua Hedionda Lagoon is a saltwater wetland and watershed and offers year-round recreational use. The lagoon includes mud flats, salt and freshwater marsh, and deep water and is actually comprised of three lagoons: a 66-acre outer lagoon, a 27-acre middle lagoon and 293-acre inner lagoon. Kayaking the lagoon is a popular activity and is best at high tide when numerous streams appear bringing a multitude of birds and wildlife. The lagoon offers numerous beaches that are only accessible by water.
Fletcher Cove-Solana Beach
Fletcher Cove Beach is a small, sandy beach set within a secluded cove. The beach is a popular spot for swimming, surfing and kayaking. Fletcher Cove, also locally known as Pillbox because of its history as a WWII Gunnery installation, is the main park within Solana Beach. There are public showers and restroom facilities, picnic tables and a basketball court located on top of the bluffs next to the Marine Safety Department Headquarters. A free public parking lot is located at the Cove. The lot is open daily from 6am until 10pm. Lifeguards are on duty year round at Fletcher Cove, from 8am to 6pm during the winter months, and from 8am to 8pm during the summer months. Beach and street patrol year-round.
Cardiff-San Elijo
San Elijo State Beach and Cardiff State Beach are great ways to experience kayaking for the more experiences. There is a great little lagoon and channel to explore right from the beach. When you're gathered your courage, the waves await as the lagoon channel can take you out into the surf for some fantastic adventure.
